Weather preparedness, awareness tips for deaf and hard of hearing people

When it comes to weather preparedness and awareness in the deaf and hard of hearing community, things can be tricky. According to Howard A. Rosenblum, chief executive officer of the National Association of the Deaf says, “Messages of emergency preparedness and weather awareness are often disseminated through radio and television announcements that are then shared through the internet and social media. However, it’s important that this information is made visible.”

Even though the internet and social media can make information visible through live streaming, experts warn that in times of extreme weather messages may not be captioned. Of course this becomes a barrier for deaf and hard of hearing people.
