‘The Simpsons’ Makes History With First Deaf Voice Actor and Use of American Sign Language
The Simpsons needs no introduction, having been debatably the most well-known cartoon of all time. Recently, it has been making moves to be more progressive and inclusive with its characters. One such move is recently having a deaf character using genuine ASL – despite only having the traditional 4 fingers. A deaf voice actor voices the character. The author of the episode was inspired by the film CODA.
