‘Prison Within a Prison’: New Mandate Offers Lifeline for Deaf People in Custody
Prisons have always been a very isolated place for Deaf people, even more so after the pandemic. Fortunately, the FCC will soon require prison phone companies to provide video communication services, according to The Marshall Project.This is scheduled to go into effect as soon as January 2024. Even so, the Deaf community is still concerned about the policy, primarily regarding the potential cost to users.
