New documentary highlights lack of accessibility for deaf and disabled people in north central Florida justice system

Many deaf people across the world are forced to deal with not having interpreters. Even in more wealthy countries, those in prisons often lack the resources to communicate effectively. A recent documentary, “Being Michelle”, displays one woman’s struggle as a deaf inmate incarcerated in Florida. The story highlights gaps and failures in the justice system when it comes to deaf accommodations. Michelle was traumatized by her experiences, but eventually opened up to share her story with the world.
