Hearing-impaired music producer gives back to Colorado

Summarized by Jennifer Reed, staff writer

Darnell Parks, who is deaf, has founded the nonprofit H.E.A.R. Me Out to serve the 500,000 adults with hearing loss in Colorado. Not only does the site benefit the deaf and hard of hearing, but spouses, family, friends, and employers can also find useful information related to hearing loss.

The incentive to create the nonprofit came following Parks’ not receiving an IT job with a company that lacked the accommodations for him to perform the necessary phone work. Parks saw the need for a way to enlighten people by showing them how to better communicate with the deaf and hard of hearing, which is exactly what www.justhearmeout.org does.

Regardless of his hearing loss, Parks is a music producer and uses the proceeds from his record, “Beautiful Chaos” to generate funds for H.E.A.R. Me Out.
