Ellis Admits Frustration of Deaf Cure
Rosa Ayling Ellis is upset, frustrated, and annoyed from the deaf cure that came out. She mentioned that if she was born a little later her life would be totally different. She did not expect the gene therapy trial to happen so soon. Ellis has strong feelings towards this trial because she believes that Deaf people should not be “fixed” because they were never “broken” in the first place. She wants to share cultural awareness and not have people look at them as something to overcome. There is this need for people to change their perspective on what they think of when they encounter a Deaf or Hard of Hearing individual. Ellis wants Deaf people to have a bigger voice. Hearing individuals should not be making decisions for them. As a result, even if Ellis could not receive the gene therapy treatment that individuals are receiving now, she wants people to know that her life is full of richness and winning. With all of that being said, a British girl named Opal Sandy became the first person in the world to take part in the gene therapy trial. There is hope for many individuals world wide to bring hearing back to those who have auditory struggles. To read full article, click here.
