Deaf Colorado Superintendent Sets an Example for the Deaf Community
Recently news came out that deaf Tera Spangler became superintendent for the Colorado School for the deaf and blind. Since this change, many deaf individuals feel welcomed and connected. Importantly, giving those who are deaf and blind a chance to blend into a school system with students who are able to hear and see, allows them to feel valued. Spangler highlights the importance of being surrounded by people who use the same language. This allows for bonding, acceptance, and effective communication between one another to happen. Spangler is a role model for the deaf. She shows that deaf individuals can achieve anything they put their mind to, and giving the deaf and blind a chance is essential.
