Butler’s new Deaf education curriculum draws concern

American Sign Language and the use of signed languages worldwide opens up communication avenues for Deaf and hard of hearing people. But a new master’s program at Butler University may limit how Deaf students learn to sign— those enrolled in the program, learning how to teach Deaf students, are required to take only one, entry-level ASL class.
