Twyla Banks

Twyla Banks, an actress, dancer, and choreographer, was born on June 5, 1989 in California. Though Twyla is hearing, she started learning American Sign Language in 2008 and participating in the deaf and hard of hearing community, including DeafandHoH.com.

Throughout her acting career, Banks has played roles on “The Young and The Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and Dance Flick. Her IMDb page boasts more than 23 different roles, beginning with a role on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” She enjoys the opportunities to experience things that she may not otherwise get to experience in her life. Banks says, “I enjoy acting because it gives you the opportunity to try new things and be different people.”

However, acting is not Banks’ only passion. An avid and accomplished dancer, Banks says that she “enjoy[s] the feeling [she] gets from dancing and how dancing can express so many types of feelings and emotions through the body.” As with acting, Banks is very grateful for the opportunities that dancing has provided her. Last year, she flew to New York to participate in Dancing with the Deaf Stars, a fundraiser for the New York School for the Deaf in Fanwood. She and her partner, Deaf actor Michael Spady, took first place in the competition.

Not only does Banks love to dance, she loves to choreograph. She believes that “dancing can not only affect the dancer but the audience as well.” For the past four years, she has choreographed a college dance fundraiser. The money goes to scholarships for students of Mount San Antonio College.

Banks is currently enrolled at California State University Northridge where she is studying to become an interpreter. To learn more about Twyla Banks, check out her Facebook page and IMDb page.
