Project IRIS makes smartphones more accessible for deaf and hard of hearing people
Many Deaf or hard of hearing people have trouble with modern long-range communications. While workarounds have been found, the new IRIS project by RIT is being developed specifically with those people in mind. The project was developed due to Deaf people having trouble with tasks such as emergency calling and receiving captions. For the project to be fully realized, wireless providers, OS providers, captioning providers and telephone providers must work together to support the project. IRIS would hopefully solve the disparity of calling and texting with the same number for deaf and hard-of-hearing customers.
