National Weather Service working with deaf community to improve emergency weather alerts
Severe weather alerts can be life-saving – however, many deaf or hard of hearing people may have trouble noticing them. However, the National Weather Service is working to improve systems to alert the hard of hearing population of danger. For one thing, weather alert apps can come with specialized devices that vibrate and flash. In addition, the NWS is working with deaf communities to implement more intuitive elements.
