Deaf Calgary playwright Landon Krentz explores sign language ban with 100 Years of Darkness

Playwright Landon Krentz is presenting his new play, 100 Years of Darkness, in both English and ASL. The play regards the mass ban on sign language in Canada in the 1880s.The effects of the ban are still present even to this day. Back then, deaf educators made the decision that oral education was better than sign education, which resulted in the ban. Krentz hopes that audiences use the play to learn more about the history and beauty of the Deaf community.
