An Opportunity of Kindness: Santa uses Sign Language to Communicate with Young Girl.

The holiday season is one meant to deliver joy and kindness. It’s a time where we all go out of our way to be a little kinder to others, but one Santa in the UK made a little girl’s day extra memorable as she came to visit Father Christmas.

The video shows Santa speaking to Mali, although she doesn’t respond quickly. Once Santa learns that the girl is deaf, he quickly switches to sign language in order to ask her what she wants for Christmas. Hearts melted at the scene as Santa and Mali shared about the magic of Christmas. You can just see the joy on that little girl as she communicated directly with Santa for what might be the first time.

As I personally reflected upon this video, I thought of the joy this Santa brought to this young girl with such a simple action. By using British Sign Language, this Santa made sure that this girl knew that Santa cared about her. I began to reflect upon my own choices, and thought about what I could do to improve the lives of others around me.

Bringing joy to others is something that happens more around the holiday season than any other time of the year. Don’t allow your kindness to only show in December, though. Use what you have the whole year round: show kindness every day, lift others when they need it, and always do what you can to make the world a better place. Remember Ebenezer Scrooge’s promise: “”I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future.”

We all live in the present, but use your experiences from your past to create a better world for the future. We can’t control the actions of others, but we can always control our own actions. Let us be kind and love one another, and continue to make the world a place full of light and life.

Happy Holidays from DeafandHoH.com! May your holidays shine a light that lead you to a marvelous new year!
