Youngstown man shares pandemic struggles as a deaf person through videos on social media

In Youngstown, Ohio, one man is doing his part to help make a difference—with surprising results.

Justin Loncar, a man with cochlear implants and heavy hearing loss, has relied on lip-reading to communicate for years. He started posting about the pandemic a few months ago, detailing his struggles communicating with people wearing masks. Those videos have since gone viral.

“I’m trying to educate the world that being deaf is not so sad or depressing,” Loncar says. “It’s just part of life.”
