Marvel team creates deaf superhero called Blue Ear in honor of boy

Anthony Smith was born with hearing problems, requiring the use of a hearing aid. However, he did not want to wear his because no superheroes had hearing aids. Unsure what else to do, Anthony’s mom wrote to Marvel about the problem; the writers then created Blue Ear, named after the family’s name for Anthony’s hearing aid. Blue Ear’s superpower comes from his hearing device, that gives him super-sonic hearing. The character is drawn to look like Anthony, who now happily wears his hearing aid.
