RogerVoice App Helps Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing People Make Phone Calls

By Mary-Ann Russon for IBT
summarized by Hailey Scragg, staff writer

On average, people make five phone calls a day. Those with profound to severe hearing loss miss out on this, which can create problems in communication with loved ones, job offers, and simply in day to day activities. This was the motivation behind the creation of the new app RogerVoice, the worlds first subtitling app that allows those who are deaf and hard of hearing to make phone calls. With this app any phone calls can be translated to text in real time, with the text transcription displayed a second or less after the words. Olivier Jeannel, the creator of the app, has lost 80 percent of his hearing which lead to the development of the app. He has already received $21,795 as of October 3rd after the campaign launched on September 22 2014, surpassing the original goal of $20,000. The app for the Android is currently in the works, with iOS and Windows in the future. Pledges of over $5 to his Kickstarter campaign receive the app, while even higher donations result in additional awards.
