New Video Remote Interpreting Service Set to launch at Access Interpreting, Inc.

This February, Access Interpreting, Inc., a company that specializes in the development of communication access services for the deaf and hard of hearing community, is releasing a new Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) service. VRI technology connects someone who is deaf or hard of hearing with a sign language interpreter when an in-person interpreter is not available. Such technology enables those with hearing loss to participate in activities they might not otherwise be able to, such as certain classes or programs. VRI would also be immensely helpful in emergency situations or medical consultations. As Brad Leon, Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Access Interpreting, Inc., said, “With the introduction of Video Remote Interpreting, we now provide communication access service for virtually any type of situation.”

Access Interpreting, Inc.’s VRI service requires only a webcam, speakers, and high-internet connection. An interpreter appears on the television or computer screen via webcam and listens through the speakers. An interpreter is available on-call or by appointment 24/7. This particular VRI program differs from other VRI services in that no special hardware or software is necessary for its operation.
