Netflix Orders Two Documentaries About Deaf Community In America

Deaf representation in the media is a tricky subject. It’s often difficult to portray the community realistically, since Hollywood or other productions fail to research the deaf community. However, there is one production coming up which seems to be a reliable, consistent look into deaf culture.

Netflix has begun production on several documentaries revolving around deaf life in the US. Deaf U follows a group of friends at Gallaudet college (one of the most famous deaf colleges in the world). The documentary gives people an inside look at the life of deaf life—a much-needed opportunity. The other documentary, Audible also follows a student in their everyday life, documenting the reality of living with deafness.
