‘Deaf President Now’ Movie In Works Based On Watershed Protests At Gallaudet University

The story of the 1988 protests at Gallaudet University is being turned into a feature film. The movie aims to be moved into production later this year. Producer Steven Posen developed the project to tell the story of the uprising at Gallaudet almost thirty-five years ago. The original protests were caused by the university choosing the only hearing candidate from among three to be the university president. This caused the campus to be shut down and drew attention across the nation. The protesters’ demands were eventually met after 8 days.
