Frank Stiefel talks about his remarkable HBO film, 'Ingelore'

In this Entertainment Weekly interview, Frank Stiefel discusses the making of his documentary, Ingelore, which chronicles his deaf motherís upbringing in and escape from Nazi Germany. As a Jewish deaf child, Ingelore Herz Honigstein endured a double-whammy of discrimination and oppression, including being raped by two German soldiers. Though Stiefel had grown up listening to such stories, it was not until his mother shared her experiences at the National Technical Institute for the deaf that he decided to record her stories on film. The resulting documentary, Ingelore, has been shown at several film festivals worldwide, and can be viewed on HBO.
