Gallaudet Celebrates The First Deaf Woman To Serve As Its President

Gallaudet University, a college in Washington, D.C. that furthers the education specifically for deaf and hard of hearing individuals, honored its first deaf, female president, Roberta Cordano, with a ceremony last week. She previously worked for the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation and co-founded the Metro Deaf School.

The only other female president Gallaudet has had stepped down in 1988 following student protests promoting the president should be deaf. Since then, all presidents, including Cordano, have been deaf.
