The Link Between Chronic Disease And Hearing Loss: Are You At Risk?

Scientists have found that patients who suffer from heart disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, Alzheimer's disease, and depression are also at higher risk of hearing loss. The Better Hearing Institute encourages people with any of these chronic conditions to make hearing screenings a regular part of check-ups. Hearing loss is found to be roughly two times as common in diabetic adults when compared to non-diabetics, according to the National Institute of Health. Published in June 2010 issue of the American Journal of Audiology, a study conducted for over 60 years found that impaired cardiovascular health had a negative influence on the peripheral and central auditory systems.
