Why audiologists have one of America's best jobs

The people who treat your hearing loss, according to, have one of the best jobs in America. And it's not just because you're such a delightful patient to work with., a website for jobseekers, listed audiology as the second least stressful job of 2015. CareerCast gave audiologists a job rated stress score of 6.30 (compared with firefighters, who at 71.59 have the most stressful job).

Scores of different levels were awarded depending on how important 11 different factors, such as competitiveness and putting your own life at risk, were to the job.

Some of the reasons audiologists have such a low-stress job is because they tend to be in control of their work schedules and work in relatively quiet environments, such as a medical office, school or nursing home, according to CareerCast.

Additionally, the median salary for an audiologist is a comfortable $69,720. Audiology will also experience tremendous job growth in the coming years - according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics data audiology will have a 34% increase in jobs between 2012 and 2022.

Another reason audiologists have a low-stress job is because their job entails helping others, which gives an emotional benefit. Working one-on-one with patients also tends to give lower stress levels.

An audiologist is a licensed health care professional who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss and balance disorders, according to the Lafayette Hearing Center.

Previously, audiology was ranked by the U.S. News and World Report as one of the Best Careers in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
